The Cathartic Effects of a Career Pivot

Why writing?

Why pivot ShayTheCoach to ShayTheCoachWriting?

While I’ve been ShayTheCoaching with clients, I’ve also been writing. I spent the bulk of this year writing a book that’s now in the starting phases of being edited! This is very exciting!!! I can finally share my “ShayTheCoaching” tips, in writing, with my ShayTheCoach folks!!! I’m hoping it reaches many more people than I ever could have now that it’s going to be in the written word and can travel out beyond my office. Don’t get me wrong, I miss my office and like I’ve said before, I’m open to re-opening it when it’s appropriate. In the meantime, I want to talk about ShayTheCoachWriting…
Of all the things I could have pivoted to, why writing?

In the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to develop some curricula in Psychology at the college level and to write pieces on Business Growth for Nutritional Scientists. I’ve been blogging with the NFPT and other organizations. I’ve been blogging for my STC folks!

I’ve found writing to be very cathartic and while I’m still a movement person, writing is an amazing platform that transcends many physical boundaries. With the world wide web, the reach is infinitesimal and with being home, I need to capture my brain and fuel its intellectual thirst and appetite. Sometimes, it seems completely insatiable and I find myself chasing it down on most days! So, I write with the hopes of getting the ShayTheCoach message out. I’ll be “leaking” some of the message out as the book moves forward and I also want to hear from you, my STC folks!

What are you experiencing right now? Have you needed to pivot? How’s it going? What does it look like? How’s it serving you? Do you know you need to pivot and are struggling to do so?

If you’re struggling to pivot, a good way to start might be to own the struggle and to honor it. Then, to acknowledge a change needs to happen. It’s hard to move into action without realizing action needs to be taken!
Write down what change needs to happen and actionable steps that will allow the change to occur. Writing it down makes it “real” and can be helpful to take the proper action to pivot.
